Chinquapin Organic Gardens Potluck Picnic 2016

Thanks to everyone who braved the heat for the 18th Annual Potluck Picnic on Aug. 13, 2016, sponsored by the Chinquapin Organic Gardens Advisory Board. It was a wonderful crowd with fantastic eats.

It was nice to meet folks from our sister garden at Holmes Run, spend time with fellow gardeners and visit with Alexandria Councilwoman Del Pepper. Thank you to master gardener Paula Kaufman for presenting the garden awards on behalf of Kirsten Conrad Buhls, MS, Virginia Cooperative Extension agent, and to Mark Condon for his tips on garden soil. Check out his information on our garden resources page.

Gardeners were honored for their green thumbs during the picnic. See the list of winners and photos of their plots on our award-winning gardens page.

This year's heat and pecking birds limited entries in the annual Tomato Taste-Off, but two awards were given:
• Smallest Ripe: Michele Late, N6; sungold heirloom tomato
• Most Appealing: Barb Goodman, Holmes Run Park gardener
Our thanks also go to Karen Late for donating her handmade baskets for the raffle, proceeds of which went to the board and the Dale May Memorial Fund, and to Deborah Joy Block of Dance Dynamix for donating ballroom dancing lessons.

And a big thank you to the picnic planning committee, who made the event happen. See you around the gardens!
